At 10:00PM on July 25th The Westhampton Beach Fire Department was dispatched to a "Smoke Investigation" that was upgraded to a "Structure Fire" at La Ronde Beach Club on Dune Road in Westhampton Beach. Captain Wachenfeld, First Assistant Chief Mauro DiBenedetto and Chief Halsey Stevens were first on scene met with Westhampton Beach Village PD advising of a quickly spreading electrical panel fire that had worked its way into the building. After a size-up was completed a plan was made to quickly extinguish the fire while preserving any structure that had not been damaged by fire yet.
Within minutes of dispatch, 7-8-1 arrived on scene and stretched a 200' preconnected line off the side as well as a second line approximately 300' that would wrap up the side of the building to the main deck and kitchen area. Both hose teams worked together to stop the fire from spreading and extinguish all the hot spots around the area. 7-8-2 arrived to supply water to 7-8-1 and 7-8-6 pulled into the driveway to access the roof for ventilation.
Four other fire departments along with the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance were called to assist in overhaul and rehab. The other responding departments were Quogue, Eastport, East Quogue and East Moriches.
