Working Residential Structure Fire

The Westhampton Beach Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Sunday February 9th at 5:49AM. The fire was discovered by a local police officer who noticed the fire while checking his area during his morning patrol. First assistant chief Mauro DiBenedetto was first on scene to confirm a working structure fire and requested assistance from Eastport and East Moriches Fire department to the scene, as well as Quogue Fire Department standby to respond to any additional alarms. Third assistant chief Lawrence Saccente arrived next followed by Engine 1. Crews from Engine 1 quickly deployed handlines and searched the house for occupants. The search team was able to confirm the house was unoccupied while the first hose line was able to contain the fire. Ladder 7-8-6 was the next to arrive on scene to assist in search and an additional hose line. All other arriving units were given specific assignments from chief DiBenedetto to quickly and safely knock down the fire. No injuries were reported, and the origin of the fire is unknown.
