On Thursday November 15, 2018 just after 1pm the department was activated for a reported Sructure Fire at 87 Oak Street, Westhampton Beach. Town Police dispatch advised that a volunteer firefighter (Babylon FD) was on scene reporting a working fire.

First to arrive on scene was Captain Larry Saccente (7852) who confirmed the working fire with heavy smoke and visible fire from the rear of the 1 story structure. As per the working fire protocol, East Moriches was requested for R.I.T., Eastport an engine to the scene and Quogue an engine to stand-by our headquarters.

Moments later Chief Engineer Billy Dalton (7830) arrived on scene and assumed command. Engine 781 arrived first due and stretched a 200' 1-3/4" preconnect line. Truck 786 arrived next and stretched a second line from engine 781 to the front door to assist with the extinguishment and complete the primary search of the building for any possible victims and fire extension. The Engine 781 officer reported water on the fire 6 minutes after dispatch and the Truck 786 officer reported the fire knocked down 2 minutes later. The recommendation for Signal 4 (incident under control) was made to Command approximately 15 minutes after dispatch after all visible fire was extinguished, the primary and secondary searches were complete and the electric isolated/disconnected.

Units remained on scene for approximately 1 hour while they conducted overhaul to make sure no hidden pockets of fire were found. Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance was on scene to provide firefighter rehab. The fire is currently under investigation by the Southampton Town Fire Marshal's Office and the Westhampton Beach Village Police Department. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. 1 pet bird was found deceased.
