Rollover on Sunrise Highway Snarls Rush Hour Traffic

On September 10, 2018 just before 1:30pm the department was activated for a reported Motor Vehicle accident on Sunrise Highway Westbound, west of Exit 63. First on scene was 3rd Assistant Chief Kevin Raynor who advised all units the accident was just east of Exit 63 in the Westbound lane and all occupants were out of the vehicle.

Rescue 785 arrived on scene and began to contain the fluids leaking from the truck as well as clean the road of debris. Fire Police arrived on scene and began to close down 2 lanes of traffic by utilizing the shoulder with the help from Ladder 7-8-6.

The occupants of the box truck were treated and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries by Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance. At the request of the NY State Troopers the department remained on scene to control traffic while Rapid Recovery worked to right the box-truck. All fire department units were back in service at 3pm.
