Just before 2:30am on Monday August 20th, the department was alerted for a reported Vehicle Fire on Sunrise Highway Eastbound, 1 Mile West of Exit 63. MTA Police were on scene advising the vehicle was on fire. Third Assistant Chief Kevin Raynor was first to arrive confirming with Firecom the vehicle was fully involved and eastbound traffic was temporarily shut down.

Engine 7-8-1 responded first due and stretched the front bumper hose line and began to extinguish the fire. A backup line was stretched off the rear and assisted in the extinguishment. Tanker 7-8-9 arrived behind Engine 1 and supplied them with an extra 3000 gallons of water if needed.

The vehicle was quickly extinguished and Sunrise Highway was reopened to traffic. All units were back in headquarters at 3:15am. The vehicle on the shoulder was left to the New York State Troopers and Southampton Town Police.
