On November 3, 2017 at 8:20pm the department was activated for a Reported Structure Fire at 5 Pleasant Ave, Westhampton. The first arriving unit was 3rd Assistant Chief Kevin Raynor who did a quick size-up and noted a heavy smoke condition coming from the second floor of an attached garage. FIRECOM was advised and requested to re-activate the alarm as a working structure fire and to also activate the pre-plan. Due to the zone the fire was in, East Moriches FD provided a Rapid Intervention Team with Eastport FD bringing an Engine to the Scene. The Quogue FD responded to our Headquarters to cover any additional alarms in the fire district.

Due to the location of the fire, on a long flag lot, with no fire hydrants nearby, Engine 781 had to drop the 5" supply line at the end of the road laying into the scene. Engine 7-8-2 arrived as the second due engine and attached to Engine 1's 5" supply line at the intersection. From there, Engine 2 drove to the hydrant to complete the positive water source. Engine 1 pulled a 1-3/4" cross lay through the garage to a staircase leading to the second floor fire. Ladder 786 was able to get in position utilizing the tower to vent the roof by breaking 2 skylights, releasing heat and smoke, making it easier for the engine crews to operate inside the structure. After 782 established the water source, their crew pulled a secondary line to the fire.

Eastport arrived on scene and assisted our units by conducting overhaul as East Moriches was setting up their R.I.T in the front yard which, thankfully, was not needed. The fire was knocked down within minutes of Engine 1's arrival and fully extinguished 21 minutes from dispatch. Units were on scene conducting overhaul and repacking hose until 10:00pm. The cause is under investigation by the Southampton Town Fire Marshall's office. The Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance was also on scene to provide firefighter rehab as needed. WHBFD would like to thank all responding depts. and Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance for their assistance.
