Electrical Hazard with Brush Fire

On Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 9:31pm dispatch received a phone call, from a passing motorist, reporting a Structure Fire in the vicinity of 635 Dune Road. A second caller advised of a brush fire. Upon arrival of 3rd Assistant Chief, Kevin Raynor, a quick size-up revealed that a primary wire was disconnected from the telephone pole and was arcing on the ground which ignited a small brush fire in front of the residence.

PSE&G was requested to respond and expedite their response due to the electrical hazard. Once the power was disconnected, Engine 1 extinguished the fire while Ladder 6 crew searched the nearby houses.

All units were back in service just before 11pm. Numerous houses were left without power till PSE&G could fix and return the lines to normal operations.
