On Thursday, August 17, 2017 the announcement was made that the Westhampton Beach, Eastport and East Moriches Fire Departments secured a $313,334 grant which was filed in October, 2016. This grant will be split between the three departments to help upgrade communications through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

Suffolk County is moving fire communications off the existing "low band" to new UHF frequencies. The grant will fund new pagers and radios that are needed to communicate with the county as well as between departments.
